The pandemic has devastated economies throughout the world, but perhaps none have been hit harder than economies centered around tourism. For a town like Jaco, and its surrounding area communities, the impact of quarantine, driving restrictions and border closures continues to take its toll. While Costa Rica has eased up with some restrictions the past few weeks and there has been a little support from local tourism, Jaco and area businesses are struggling to make ends meet. Most are simply just trying to survive these difficult times and try to make it to the high season, with the hopes that an influx of both local and international tourism will begin to recover. Residents all have different opinions, concerns, frustrations on how Covid-19 is affecting their community and how it is being handled. This video talks to Jaco residents and gives a nice feel of what locals are feeling so far. The good news is the Jaco community continues to work together to help each other and collaborate on ideas. With proximity to San Jose, the area is best suited to recover quickly and benefit from local tourism.
