What is the Chicken Project?

Pura Vida Church has goal to distribute 5000 chicks to local families

There are many ways to help those in need, but there is something special about projects that help those in a sustainable way. The Chicken Project (Pollito Project) does just that, by helping create a sustainable food source for families in the Central Pacific. Organized by the Pura Vida Church in Esterillos, the Chicken Project is making a tremendous impact. Addressing the hard economic times that many families have been undergoing because of the pandemic lockdown, the Church is supplying chicks and hens to families.

Next phase is distruting 2000 laying hens.

Next phase is distributing 2000 laying hens.So far the program has distributed 3000 chicks to over 300 families, which will supply those families with 18,000 pounds of food. The group is now in phase two of the project where they will be distributing laying hens. Already they have distributed hens to 126 different families and plan to distribute 2000 total hens in the next month.

With much of the economy being tied to tourism, Esterillos and the rest of the Central Pacific region have been significantly impacted, with many losing their jobs and businesses. Besides providing families with a sustainable food source, the project has helped many with stress and mental issues that many have had during. Pura Vida Church has organized and lead the project, but it’s been the help of those in the church, along with volunteers and sponsors from the community who have made this project a great success.
