Crocs Hotel and Condo Owners Assist Unemployed

Food packages to recently laid off employees in Jaco.

In these times of challenge, members of the Jaco community continue to support each other and help those in need.  One of the hardest hit businesses in Jaco has been the larger hotels, who have been forced to close their doors completely and lay off nearly all their staff.  This has left hundreds unemployed in Jaco and with little support from government aid, many families have been left scrambling for food and essentials.  One of the biggest hotels in Jaco is the Crocs Casino & Resort.  Crocs was forced to close their doors back in March and suspended contracts to 170 of their employees.  Recently, the owner of Crocs along with a group of owners of the condo hotel division worked together to organize food packages to those employees.   Silvia Bermúdez, Marketing and Public Relations Director for Crocs, said each packages included food and staples to help those families in need.  Asked when she expects Crocs to reopen, Bermúdez replied, “We are waiting on the government like everyone else in Costa Rica to see what they recommend.”

This is just one example of many in which local businesses have stepped up to assist those in need.  Crocs hotel is located on the north end of Jaco Beach and is the largest resort in Jaco.  All of us in Jaco look forward to them opening again soon.
